THE BOTTOM ADVENTURES

TWO gig reports for the price of one!

Well, there I was in San Jose going on a wild goose chase as usual. I won't go into the details but suffice it to say it was one of those Eyesores wild goose chases of which there are so many of. It involved getting tickets to the show. Lots of them were passed out among people. Turns out hardly any of them showed up. Of course we got last slot, and people left during our set. This also meant that the dude running it told us "two more minutes" earlier than any of the other bands' sets. Of course we played 6 and a half minutes of Clean and Full. Tough shit. They didn't even advertise us. And Devious got up onstage unnecessarily several times, at one time unplugging Maddog's guitar. We were all in a slightly pissy mood after. So we were then asked to do a party in Oakland. Again there was lots of confusion. We got out to Oakland, and since I had completely lost my voice, I didn't have a mike. However the set turned out great. The lead singer of the Peter London band, by the way, had been in a band with Maddog years ago, and I think Stab as well. I think that Pat Smith also was in the band too- Midnight Image. By the way, Pat Smith's old band, Dream Fire had played a show with the Eyesores at the Moose Lodge way back in Oct. of 1995. He was doing sound at the Oakland party, and playing drums in the other band 2wamp. They played borderline grind influenced heavy metal, good drums, bass, guitar, vocals. The Oakland show was so good it made up for the bullshit that had happened the previous night. We ended up going back, drank some beers, I drove to Fullerton (after as many hours as beers, officer), and here it is- Sunday.

some of the tunes from the show (sorry about the static from the 10-31 show):

Metalhed's Gig Report:

Oct 30 at the Spy- formerly "the Usual" and "F/X"- (we have played both, and in fact we got an early pre-Eyesores band called "Vietnun" banned because our bassist postered our flyers all over their billboard- true story- editor)

The 3rd time definitely was not the charm. Back in '95 we got the shaft at FX and had to be opener, but at least we got beer (speak for yourself Metalhed, Gnu and I were not 21 and couldn't even hang out after our set- Dog), pizza, and bottom. Then in 2001, we rocked it at the usual even though the other bands lagged on us, and made us opener at our own show that we put together ourselves (that's why we played for over an hour- other bands have been known to complain about this, but that is why. - Dogface). This time around at Spy, we got the runaround 3 times by the promoter who finally set us up with the night before Halloween. We only got a week notice, so it was ruff. Still we managed to get rid of all our tickets, but we didn't sell any because most people are broke the week b4 the show. For some idiotic reason, we had to be there at 6pm when we didn't have to go on till a supposed 11:30 pm. Of course, that was changed to 1am due to laggage on the part of bands and promoter. One by one our crowd began to pile in only to wait and wait and keep on a waitin'. Beers were a buck each PBR only for band members. Big Whoop. At least our die hard fans stuck around for our whole set which was prematurely cut- only 1/2 hour. (actually it was a bit longer than that but not by much- Dogface) To make it worse, I had a non-working monitor. Also, my bass was hooked up to a crappy fuzzbox and it made it sound weak comin' through the cabinet (editor: what probably happened was that the box was a "DI" or direct input box so the sound person could run the bass right through the PA- since Metal likes amp distortion on his bass like Lemmy or Chuck Dukowski, this didn't go over so well. In addition, his bass amp was probably turned a little lower than it needed to be.) It threw us off a bit, but somehow it actually came out good, and the crowd dug it.

here are some pics from the 10-30-03 show at the Usual
