THE BOTTOM ADVENTURES

Well, this sure was an unusual show- it was at the same place the previous CC7 show was, except for the fact that as Tom got there to put our names in, someone told him that the drums had been too loud the previous time. It also just so happened that I was to unveil my solo band "Dumas" before an unsuspecting crowd of folkies. In case you didn't know, and you probably didn't, Dumas is me (DG) and Jonas (bassist from Irritations, formerly of Crash Coarse, OPM). I had a goofy plan of pre-recording the drums on the 4-track (which somehow skirted the "no drums" edict), then running the guitar and bass right into the 4 track- both recording AND doing the final sound mix through my trusty 4 track- if you own or have heard an Eyesores recording, you have heard recordings done on that Yamaha 4 track. My big master plan was to hook up a mike to record the "room sound" and thereby pick up the vocals for the one song I was going to sing on. The first 2 were instrumentals (the first one is actually a medley called, "Knock and YOu'll Know/Proletarian Rough-head"; the second is "Oregon Blues"), and the third song was, "I felt Like a Gringo" by the Minutemen. So what do I do? Forget to plug the mike in. My video camera got a decent recording though. There were sound problems being that it was a very strange set up- drum track playing from track 1, bass directly into track 2, guitar into a pre-amp (for distortion), then into track 3, then the whole mix into the PA (where most normal people would plug their acoustic/electrics into). The vocals of course went through another channel of the PA. you can hear the whole mess HERE.

Anyway, people didn't throw tomatoes, and it was fun. Of course I was going to sit out the CC7 jam because I hadn't thought to bring my acoustic 12 string and work out 2nd guitar parts (next time goddammit), so I got it on video. Go to http://www.myspace.com/circlecityseven.

So CC7 did "Hell On You", then "I Wanna Live" by the Ramones, and finally "I Remember You". Good set, and there were some very capable, quality acts on after CC7- there was a blues guitarist who was kicking some ass, covering "What I say" by Ray Charles; there was also a guy on blues harp and vocals who appeared with some of the other guitar players, and a guy who looked like Robbie Krieger playing some really good classical/Spanish style guitar. Then Tom got up and did 2 more alternating sets with the guy who was running the show, and played some really cool stuff.

all in all, it was a success, (not a "sucksess"), despite technical difficulties, it all went off well. Check out two clips of the evening:

"Knock and You'll Know/Proletarian Rough-head/Oregon Blues/I Felt Like A Gringo (minutemen cover)" by Dumas played live on June 22, 2005 note fucked up lyrics on the Minutemen cover. Also, Knock and You'll Know/Proletarian Roughhead is a future Eyesores song with Metalhed's lyrics- this version is an instrumental.
