Well here's the scoop on the poop- first of all, there was a weekend-long party to celebrate Metalhed's 57th er excuse me 37th birthday party on the weekend of Nov. 26th.. so of course I had to be there!
The first part of the party was that Metal's girl Marianne (who is actually a good singer/guitarist in her own right) booked the meeting/reception room at the place he lives for a joint birthday party between her son and Metal, and after all the birthday festivities came a jam session with Meister Brown, Stab, myself (Dog), and of course Metal. We jammed for a good 90 minutes or so, and when the noise got too much for the surrounding area, we did some acoustic stuff- Metal's girl joined in on digeridoo. Devious showed up, and then we all (Devious, Meister, Stab, and myself) all piled in a couple of cars (Metal stayed behind to help clean up) to go to a comedy club where Meister has performed his routines on many occasions. He was not going on tonight, but several other fine comedians were on and we enjoyed the comedy as well as a few brews. We later returned and everyone went home and crashed out. It was thought better to save energy for the party tomorrow.
During the day of the 26th, I mostly relaxed while Metal and Marianne went off and had pics taken. I kicked back, caught up on sleep, and listened to music. We later went to his mom's house and set up the gear (drums, amps, etc), and started swilling alcoholic beverages. We jammed for another 90 minutes or so, and were having so much fun playing music that we kept jamming acoustic until the wee hours of the night. Anyone who had an instrument could join in. The next day I split for OC.
Then, on Friday night, Metal was to come in on the bus (he takes the Grayhound down to the LA station), and when I showed up at 9, the clown was nowhere to be found. I wandered around for a short time, then remembered that the Rolling Blackouts were playing nearby. I said "fuck it", left a couple of messages on the clown's voice mail, and took off to find the show. There was no parking to be found, it being downtown LA, so I went back to the 'hound station to check, and there of course was the dummy wandering around looking confused thinking I'd just gotten there. It was about 10:30, so I thought it would be cool to go down and check out the show, perhaps throwing around some flyers. We went down and checked out both the second band and third band (unfortunately missing the first band), and made sure to promote our show. We went back after the show to drink a couple beers, and sleep.
Saturday was spent watching Ray Charles DVDs (the one made in Brazil in 1963), jamming (working on new recordings), and then when Snake Witcher showed up with his wife, worked on some songs from the set. Snake is moving to Phoenix Arizona in the near future, so this was to be a fairly unique show. We got to the venue after driving for about half an hour, and unfortunately Los Baggabundos weren't playing (no singer). Kalifornia Taliban were though, and played a cool set. Crash Coarse went on next and also had a cool set that was only hampered by PA problems. The presence of some old fans yelling for certain songs was cool though. Then the Eyesores went on and played a fairly solid set - we did Ho Ho Ho Erik, American Eyedoll, Cat's Meow, you name it, we did it. We didn't do Hefty for the Holidays for some reason though. So that's that. It was a kick ass show- thanks to all who showed up, everyone in KT, the other guys in Crash Coarse and Eyesores!
