"Eyesore Po'd" practice session at San Jose State with Fist, Metal, and Dog. Last minute jam, so Meister Brown was unable to be there.
Well, what can I tell you about the Eyesores you don't already know? That's right, we like playing small bars that don't have lots of people (note: if you are a promotor reading this, this is all a big ass self effacing act so we will remain to appear "punk rock" or alternative- in truth we tend to draw about 200-300 heads on Sunday nights and weeknights- we can draw as many people as you like- please specify pencil or pen please). But I digress. I pulled into town, got some sleep at Moe's pad. Iron Fist showed up, introductions were made, and we were possibly going to jam- except we didn't. So me and Moe went down to his dad's pad to pick up amps. We already had drums with us. Went to McDonalds while Iron Fist went to go pick up guitar and cable. Found that McDonalds no longer supported free soda refills past 3 refills. Feeling butt hurt and cheated, Metal angrily left, telling the people behind the counter he would no longer do business with them.
So... no more bottom. Met back at the shack, we had spike jones on the box. Then heded down to the show, in eastside. Not lots of people but what the hell. Fist and I set up our guitar gear, Brown and Moe their respective rigs. Coreye wandered around. We plugged into this little tiny PA on the side, which seemed to fill our needs 1/2 decently. By the time we started up, the PA guy had gone and plugged our mikes into his board- which sounded ok, and came out two different speakers.... but the cords were stretched from where the mikes were. This would be a problem, as Coreye ran all over the place, tangling mike cables, and according to another observer, knocked my mike stand down several times, causing the ball of the mike to be knocked off the body. I didn't notice this until later. Someone get this guy a radio mike! So, since the other band was nowhere in sight, we played as long and as noisy as we damn well pleased. Lots of long instrumentals. Fist was picking up the material very well and kicked ass although not audible 1/2 the time due to going through the small keyboard amp we use sometimes. To be fair, I later realized that the last 1/2 of the gig was somewhat tainted by my gross overcompensation (not for a small wang goddammit) in volume and enormously loud sound blastage. Got to work on that! Clean and Full was epic - featuring multiple drummers, me wandering around smacking a cowbell, laying on the floor making fucked up feedback, and Metal's girl Marianne playing some bass.
Another small obstacle was the fact that a phantom top layer of fingernail on my index finger was flopping loose grotesquely, exposing month and a half old dried blood between it and the new layer- I had been practicing with CRASH COARSE one night and my finger got caught between the snare rim and a drumstick. Remember my toe? Similar, except the blood dried and didn't squish out of my finger a couple weeks after the injury. Well, we ended up splittin' back to the pad for some serious partyage. Coreye and Moe spent about literally, no lie, the better part of three hours arguing about various clown stuff. Lots of people hung out, including some old friends, also Devious was there, plus more... many more. Coreye told me about a show the next day at Shady Acres with False Positive.
Woke up with my head hurting pretty badly. Devious treated Metal and I to some Burger King and sodas, and then I dropped them off at work. With about 8 or so hours to kill before the clowns got off work, I went to Musicians Warehouse and tried out some guitars, as well as this insanely small backpacker mandolin. Then off to Rasputin's where I got: Zappa, Melvins, Creedence, Unholy Swill, and the Fucknots. Went back to Metal's girl's pad and Coreye comes knocking on the door. Feeling tired I wasn't 100% sure, but went anyway and had a blast watching False Positive tear up the place. I don't immediately remember the names of the other bands, but the two bands after False Positive were pretty fucking fast and tore the place up. (Update: they are called The Outlaws and Strung up...) Not literally. After the party, walked back to Moe-town and we got down to some more brews. Rocker Dave showed up among others. Then next morning we made plans to jam. Unfortunately Meister Brown wasn't able to do it, so it was just myself (playing drums this time), Metal, and Iron Fist going over some of the songs. First we wandered around Chuck E Cheeses' in a daze. After the jam session I went home (first ate some Salvadoran food before leaving). So that's what happened. (DG August 23, 2006 1:15 am)
