THE BOTTOM ADVENTURES

oops:

Mon Sept. 11 at Johnny V's (see their myspace here)

31 East Santa Clara St.San Jose, CA.

Here's the gig report from last week, a video, and an Mp3 (for you to download).

First of all, I dug up some old stuff from the old site:

Changing Music (the Eyesores with Snake Witcher on guitar) and a short video clip of the Cat's Meow live in Downey, CA with Waysted on guitar and opening for Greg Ginn and Yawningman (members of Fatso Jetson, Across the River, and Kyuss):

For the gig report, here it is:

Well, I drove all fuckin' night. I noticed a few small fires in the hills near the grapevine and didn't think much of it. Got to Metal's place, then slept like a baby. If I remember correctly, we got bottom at Pizza Hut, and ordered a pizza. As usual, Metal had no dough.

After picking up amps, etc, went back and I showered. Fist showed up and we all hung for a short while. Later in the evening went down to the venue. Small fuckin' stage, esp. for 5 or 6 people, depending on whether Devious showed up. So I set up in the corner, Fist set up to the left of the stage, and we all crammed in. I had trouble balancing my guitar sound, as it was really bassy, and because some of the mikes fed back, people thought my guitar was feeding back.

Coreye was set up with his own mike this time, but for some reason stomped all over Fist's pedals and cables this time. A few songs were a little underpracticed - I for one wish that Cat's Meow would have been played properly, but lots of the other songs were just fine. Maybe the noise contributed to the sound tonight. It was lots of fun, so after the set, I went back to the pad, dropped off the gear, then came back to the club to do some drinking.

We later walked around downtown looking for beer. Naturally, when we saw the liquor store with 3 cop cars outside and a bunch of cops having a conference, we decided that it was the perfect place to go. Al had gone to work, so it was me, Devious, and Metal. Fist had also split, as he had to work early. We went in the store, and one cop was behind the counter reviewing surveillance tape with the clerk- they had probably been ripped off. So as we approached the counter with our beer, Devious tells the cop, "you look familiar". The cop replied that he remembered Devious, and that he'd arrested him at his mom's house a while ago.

So we went back to the pad and partied it up. Had a good time, and even put on the old Eyesores 7"s on the turntable for a good laugh. We all agreed that Call the Cops could have been done better, but Liquorstore Dogs still impressed after 11 years. Ended up crashing early in the morning. Woke up the next day and I began to head home.

I realized something was up when I thought back to when I drove up the 5 and saw small fires in the hills near the grapevine. Then on the way back down, I saw the electronic freeway info boards saying that the 5 was closed at the 138. Puzzled, I drove on. I had debated with myself before I left as to whether I should take the 101, and the 5 won out.

So about 4 or 5 miles short of the 138, everything came to a standstill. Took about an hour to get on this little pissant two lane road. Then everyone stopped AGAIN. For about half an hour, I turned off the radio and listened to news radio discussing Schwartzeneggar and his comments about Puerto Ricans being hot.

What had happened, was someone who had been diverted from the 5, had likely gotten very impatient, and started to pass traffic in the left lane, and had smashed into an oncoming car going the other way. So I and other cars turned around, then took a different pissant two lane highway into Lancaster, where I placed some phone calls informing people I was going to be late. Finally got back to my place after almost 11 hours of driving and waiting. Fuck that, next time I'm listening to my instincts if they tell me to take the 101.

also I need to mention that since Dr. Lee from the Primus website was there at the show, I threw in a little "Too Many Puppies" during Clean and Full (Metal handed me the bass for some reason during that song, I think he wanted to run around and grab himself onstage for that song).
